Bringing Storytelling to Life: Year 4 Pupils Experience the Magic of Aladdin With The Birmingham Hippodrome

Thanks to a wonderful partnership with Birmingham Hippodrome, Year 4 pupils from Holyhead Primary Academy recently attended a performance of Aladdin, immersing themselves in the magic of live theatre while bringing their literacy studies to life as part of their Literacy for Life curriculum.

The experience offered pupils a unique opportunity to engage with storytelling in a dynamic and immersive way. Watching Aladdin unfold on stage enabled them to connect the performance to their classroom learning, deepening their understanding of characters, creative expression, and narrative structure. The vibrant combination of acting, music, and set design brought the beloved story to life, helping pupils see how written narratives can be transformed into an engaging, multi-sensory experience.

Natalie Shipley, Principal at Holyhead Primary Academy, said: “Taking our year four pupils to see Aladdin at the Birmingham Hippodrome was truly magical. Bringing literacy to life in such a vibrant and engaging way helps ignite a passion for reading, writing, and storytelling for our children, not only enriching their learning but also inspiring their creativity and curiosity.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Birmingham Hippodrome for making this amazing experience possible. It’s partnerships like these that make a real difference in shaping our pupils’ love for learning, providing them with unforgettable experiences that will inspire them for years to come.”

The event is part of Holyhead Primary Academy’s wider commitment to integrating the arts into the curriculum and providing pupils with enriching experiences beyond the classroom. This collaboration with Birmingham Hippodrome helps foster a love of learning, creativity, and self-confidence for children, encouraging them to engage with the world around them in new and exciting ways.

In addition to the performance, pupils had the chance to explore the behind-the-scenes workings of a professional theatre, learning about the various roles involved in bringing a production to life. This hands-on experience further broadened their understanding of the arts and the skills needed to create a show like Aladdin.

Holyhead Primary Academy is excited to continue building creative partnerships like this one, ensuring that all young learners have the opportunity to experience the joy and power of the arts throughout their educational journey.
