Fostering a Love of Reading at Holyhead with Children’s Author Katherine Rundell

Holyhead Primary Academy was delighted to host a captivating event that sparked the imaginations of Year 6 pupils, who were given the exciting opportunity to engage in a virtual author talk with the renowned children’s author, Katherine Rundell.

This exciting opportunity came as part of the Academy’s ongoing commitment to fostering a love of reading among pupils and helping to inspire the next generation of creative writers.

The event centred around Rundell’s thrilling novel ‘The Good Thieves’, which pupils in year six had just begun reading as part of their literacy curriculum. During the virtual session, pupils delved into the story’s vibrant world, gaining insights into the creative process of storytelling and discovering how Rundell’s own experiences influenced her writing.

Natalie Shipley, Principal at Holyhead Primary Academy, commented: “At Holyhead, we believe that reading opens the door to a world of possibilities. Katherine Rundell’s talk was a wonderful way to show our pupils not just the joy of a great story but also the many paths they might explore in the future. Seeing their faces light up with curiosity and inspiration was truly heartwarming. It’s moments like these that underscore the power of books to spark ambition and creativity.”

The virtual session provided a truly enriching experience, blending the excitement of storytelling with valuable insights into personal growth and creative development.
